In this study, the authors aimed to develop a 3D-cell culture model as a tool to evaluate trophectoderm behaviour and functionality in the process of human implantation. The CytoSMART Omni was used to monitor the generation of trophoblast cell line Swan71 (Sw71) spheroid models. Moreover, the CytoSMART Lux3 FL was used to study the spheroids' propensity for migration. It was found that Sw71 spheroids acted as a model of early human placenta, with resemblances to the hatched human blastocyst in morphology and functionality.
