The authors of this study investigated intracellular anti-microbial responses as a result of senescence in epithelial cells. The CytoSMART Lux2 was used to observe proliferation in HeLa cells with induced senescence. The results suggest that pathogen loads are not solely responsible for infection-associated morbidity in aging cells, but it is also a result of reduced ability to resolve damage after infection.
