This study was used to compare the growth of fourteen different fungi in microfluidic devices consisting of maze patterns. Growth of the fungi was monitored with the CytoSMART Lux2, and analyzed based on growth velocity and navigation through the maze. Overall, the results showed that two branching strategies occur among fungi, from which the high-frequency branching with high exploration resulted in faster maze escape in a maze with sharp turns, while low-frequency branching resulted in faster maze escape in a maze with shallow turns.
